Tribute

We are sad to announce the passing of Bill.

He was born in Prince Rupert and raised in North Vancouver. In 1949 he married Betty (Nicoll), the love of his life and in 1950 they moved to Powell River. Dad loved Powell River and considered this move one of the best decisions of his life.

In 1960 they built a house on Harvie Avenue, which he was always very proud of, and where they raised their family surrounded by their many friends.

Dad worked on the paper machines and eventually became a craneman on the clothing crew. He also acted as the President of Local 1 PPWC Chapter for over 20 years. Dad always believed in honesty and treating people fairly, and lived his life consistent with these values.

Dad was a member of the Westview Volunteer Fire Department for 33 years, and served as Chief for 25 years. In his spare time he loved to fish and kept fit exercising at Powell River Recreation Complex. Dad loved gardening with a passion for growing tomatoes. He spent many hours in his workshop carving.

Bill will be remembered for his stylish dressing; love of life, friends and family; always quick with a joke and his everpresent smile. He will be sorely missed by his loving wife and soulmate of 65 years Betty, along with son Doug and wife Delma Evans of Kelowna, daughter Bonnie Sudul and husband Garry of Rothesay, NB, six grandsons David (Chelsey) Evans, Stephen (Nicole) Evans, Gregory Evans, Evan (Eileen) Sudul, Gareth (fiancée Meaghan) Sudul, James Sudul and lifelong cherished and devoted friend Cliff Gerhart. He is also survived by many neices and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his parents, three sisters, brother and nephew.

Heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Nick White for his compassionate care for Dad over the years. The family is grateful for the extraordinary kindness and compassion shown by staff at Olive Devaud Residence. Also, special thanks to close friends, Lena and Cliff.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer Society of BC. No formal service by request. Arrangements by Stubberfield Funeral Home.

Close in our hearts you will always stay loved and remembered every day.
