Anna Nowakowska

October 18, 1938 - May 30, 2018

Tribute

Anna Nowakowska, 79, passed away on May 30, 2018, at her home in Willingdon Creek Village in Powell River. She was born on October 18, 1938, in Poland and immigrated to Canada in 1969, where she lived the rest of her life in Powell River enjoying the Sunshine Coast. Anna was an avid gardener and helping people was her love. She was known as Anna Banana by all of Charles’ friends and gave them heck whenever she felt necessary. In the last 25 years, her light was her grandchildren; they were her everything. Anna is survived by her son Czeslaw (Charles), daughter-in-law Julie of Victoria, BC, grandchildren Christian (Devon) of Toronto, ON, Sierra of Coquitlam, BC, good friend Osburn Campbell of Powell River and her twin Stanislawa of Poland, and nieces and nephews. Anna was predeceased by both her parents and brother back in Poland. Her family would like to express its extreme gratitude for the caring staff at Willingdon Creek, who made her last few years enjoyable and her last couple of days so comfortable for both her and family. A service will be held on June 4, 2018, at Church of the Assumption. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC & Yukon.

Our deepest sympathy to Anna’s family and friends

From: Marilyn D. Campbell
Relation: It is my brother, Osburn's dearest friend.

Our deepest condolences to the Nowakowska family, Charles, his wife, Julie, her grandchildren and Osburn Campbell on the departing of a dear mother and a dearest friend. We know that you all will deeply miss her. Anna was a loveable person, so kind and fun to be around. We loved when she came to visit us in Caplan, Quebec, she loved her gardening where ever she went. When Grace and I visited our brother, Osburn in Powell River, Anna was always with us, a big part of our family, she would always travel with us where we went. Osburn, Anna was the love of your life and she always looked out for you. Cherish those memories, no one can take them away from you. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Love your brother and sister, Mitchell and Marilyn

I met Anna and her son soon after she came to Powell River. She was very friendly and determined that her son would have a good future in Canada. She was so proud of his success.
Her life was not easy, but she was a realist and faced up to things bravely.
I saw her just a few days before she died and learned of her death while I’m here in Scotland visiting family.
My condolences go out to her family and to her dear friend Osborne. She told me on one occasion, she couldn’t have managed without the loving care and friendship he gave so freely.
She will be missed. Helen Evans

Anna was a good friend to my mother, Lee Lorenzen (passed away in 2017) who was also a resident of Willingdon Creek. Anna made sure that mom was included in everything and checked up on her if she did not show up for a meal. I had many visits with Anna while also visiting my mother (I live in the states.) She had a most interesting life and I enjoyed talking to her. Although she was in Willingdon Creek for a long time, I have to think that she helped many of the residents and their families just as she helped our family. Thank you Anna! I am sure you an mom have had an enjoyable reunion.
