Tribute

Edward Ausborne Vincent passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family on February 5th, 2024.  Ed was born in Penetanguishene, Ontario in 1945, son of Amy and Fred; brother to Dorothy, Kathy and John. Ed travelled west in his early years, searching for his purpose.  Those early years were focused on riding the rail cars and learning about life.  He learned quickly he was meant to build things and he spent his life devoted to construction.  He met Dorothy McNee and they wed and settled in Valemount, BC and started a family.  Elaine and Deanna were born and after making a home in Kamloops they settled in Fernie, BC to work and raise their family.

After Dorothy’s passing in 1988, Ed headed further west to be closer to the ocean in Powell River. There he had the opportunity to build more structures, enjoy the beauty of the ocean and meet his new partner, Connie Sullivan. Ed became a second Dad to her children Dana, Stacie and Kyle and for the last thirty years got to experience the benefits of being a mentor, husband, father, grandfather and friend. Ed was the epitome of a gentleman, whose wise, sage and occasionally blunt advice helped us all navigate life. His presence left a lasting impression and he will be missed by all those who knew him. His quiet thoughtful ways were a testament to his true character. He always ended his conversation with an ‘Ed ism’ so it seems fitting his final words are this:

“If you can’t be good, then be yourself!”
