Tribute

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of James Hildebrand, age 87, on September 17, 2021, just six months after the passing of his beloved wife Betty. He was born in Morden, Manitoba, on October 9, 1933. There he met Betty, whom he married in 1953. They moved to Powell River in 1955 and had three sons. Jim was an employee of the mill in Powell River for more than 30 years. He was an avid fisherman and loved the ocean. He volunteered countless hours for the Powell River Salvation Army over 50 years and played the bass and sang on their worship team. Jim was enormously generous and the best grandpa ever. He leaves three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed. Jim’s family would like to offer sincere thanks and gratitude to the amazing doctors, nurses and staff at Powell River General Hospital. Special thanks go to Dr. Van Zyl for the care he gave to Jim; he was always willing to make a house call when needed. Thanks to the exceptional care of the home support and RNs who came to the house to care for Jim until he had his last stroke, which landed him back in hospital, where he ended his final journey. Lastly, thanks to Salvation Army pastors and majors Rosanne and Glen Fraser for the many visits and phone calls, and just being there to pray and support us.
