Lawrence Gatt

March 9, 1939 - February 14, 2024

Tribute

With great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Lorry. He was born in Birgu “Vittoriosa” Malta, and is predeceased by his parents (Joseph “Pepe” and Grace) and siblings (Maria, Nellie, Jessie, Edward, Lilly, George and Leli). Lorry is survived by his loving wife, Emily, recently celebrating 61 years of marriage. They are a true love story. Lorry is survived by his six children Grace (Mark), Lillian (Tony), David (Mary), Sue (Vince), Joan and Loraina (Alex); thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Lorry is also survived by siblings (Alfred, Joe, Carmen, France and Rita) and too many nieces and nephews to count. Family and faith were Lorry’s life’s devotion; his children and grandchildren joined their mom and dad every Sunday for lunch after church. All welcomed, a sign entering their home reads, Grandma & Grandpa’s House, a place where Cousins become Best Friends. As a young man in Malta, Lorry worked at St. Joseph’s Woodwork, his father’s shop. Lorry and Emily met in Malta and married in 1962, immigrating to Canada in 1963 to begin their life in Powell River. Surrounded by his siblings and growing Maltese community, Powell River was their forever home. Lorry worked at the Powell River Paper Mill until his retirement at age 58. He and Emily traveled throughout the world, including cruises to Alaska, family trips to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and returning often to their homeland, Malta. His wife, children and grandchildren at his side, Lorry passed peacefully on Valentine’s Day, Ash Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for prayers and extending kindness to others.
