Louisa Sylvia Rose Burnikell

November 22, 1915 - November 25, 2010

Tribute

Louisa Sylvia Rose Burnikell (nee Jenkins) passed away peacefully after a short stay at Evergreen Extended Care in Powell River. She is survived by her loving son, Gary, and his wife, Jan., her beloved grandchildren, Karin, Bob (Maranda), Jacob (Beka), and the great grandchildren in whom she delighted – Zakery, Eli and Ayla – as well as her brother, Stanley, his wife, Margery, sister-in-law, Diana, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Paul, in October 2006 and her dearly loved husband, Bob, in October 2007.
Lou was born in Vancouver on Nov. 22, 1915, the youngest daughter of 6 children born to Albert and Clara Jenkins. She spent most of her life in the city she loved, moving to Powell River in 1999 in order to be nearer the family. Lou was an intelligent, witty woman with a keen sense of humour, a wonderful sense of fun, and a gift for thankfulness that none of life’s struggles could extinguish. She delighted in beautiful things – from flower gardens and delicate china to pretty fashions and fun jewelry – and she never grew tired of the world’s beauty. She loved a good party, was an excellent dancer, a great cook, and very much enjoyed the years when she and Bob were able to travel. Hawaii was beyond doubt her favourite destination! A loving and devoted wife, mother, Nana and Great-Nana, she will be greatly missed by her family.
A service of remembrance will be held at Faith Lutheran Church on Monday, Dec. 6 at 1:30 p.m., Pastor Carol Dennison officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations to Kiwanis Garden Manor or a charity of your choice would be gratefully accepted.
The family would like to extend deep appreciation and thanks to the many kind people who helped to make Bob and Lou’s years in Powell River so pleasant and welcoming. A special note of thanks goes out to Dr. Barry McDonald for his kindness and care, to the wonderful people at Kiwanis Garden Manor, to the 4th floor nursing staff, and to the staff at Evergreen Extended Care for their compassionate and respectful care in mom’s last weeks of life. Words will never adequately convey our gratitude to you all.
