Paul Yungen

March 6, 1940 - June 16, 2017

Tribute

Paul’s Christian faith brought him peace and comfort throughout his life and in his last days before the Lord called him home on June 16 th, 2017.  Because of his wife’s loving care, he was able to pass away at home as he wished.

Paul was pre deceased by his first wife Julis and two of his brothers, Walter and Peter.  He was born in Adelboden, Switzerland, to Alfred and Rosa Yungen. In 1948 the family, including Paul and his younger brother Ernie, immigrated to McBride, BC.  Later on the family expanded with more siblings, Walter, twins Verner and Liz, and Peter.

At the age of 15, independent and bright young Paul left the farm and went to Vancouver where he was able to find an auto mechanics apprenticeship position. This would be where he met his first love, Julis Pearson.

After the engagement, Paul moved to Powell River in 1964 to accept a job at the Pulp and Paper Mill where he eventually became a Supervisor, a job he performed until his retirement in 1999. After a lengthy engagement Paul married his Julis, bought a house and started a family, Christine and Curtis.  Many wonderful memories were created camping in their Boler, including  a trip across Canada all the way to Montreal.

Curtis married his first wife Elissa and gave Paul two wonderful grandsons, Bret and Cole. Later on Curtis would remarry to Cheryl and Paul gained two more grandsons, Corey and Jason. Paul was also close to Ingrid’s grandchildren and as the family grew Paul also enjoyed being a great grandfather to two beautiful little girls. He was also grandpa to his daughter Christine’s many fur babies.

Paul was a wonderful father, grandfather, husband and a friend to many.

Paul enjoyed and appreciated nature from many angles, on the slopes, on the golf course, hiking, and from the air. He actually built his own plane and owned an ultra light. His passion for flying never waned, even after walking away from three crashes.   He was always close with his extended family. An annual  ‘Yungen’ family golf tournament brought every one together. The competition was fierce with a lot of fun to boot. Paul was always interested in what his nieces and nephews were up to as they grew.

After retiring Paul remained extremely active. With his second love, Ingrid, he took up serious travelling. They explored Cuba, Australia, New Zealand and Europe, visiting family and friends along the way. He developed an expertise in computers, rebuilding, repairing and helping others with problems. He also discovered his love for motorcycles, ending up owning three.

Keeping in touch with old friends and making new ones was another passion of Paul’s.  He could be seen at the A&W and Farmers Market regularly catching up on news and listening to his favourite Country and Western tunes.

Paul was a good man who will be deeply missed by the many lives he touched especially his immediate family,
