Tribute
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Reinier Baas. After a short battle with cancer, Rene passed away peacefully.
Rene is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Bertha (Bep) and his four children: Ron (Laura) and their children Alicia (Ryan) Newman and Sarah (Nick); Jim; Sylvia (Paul) Liknes and their children Matthew and Sydney; and Loretta (Len) Cooper and their children Megan and Amber. He is also survived by his great-grandson Henry Newman, his brother Peter Baas in Langley, his sister Annie Schouter in Holland as well as many other relatives.
Rene immigrated to Canada from Holland and quickly gained employment at the Powell River Company in 1952. On a visit to Holland in 1957, he met his future wife, who then followed him to Powell River, where they married on October 4, 1958.
After 37 years of employment, Rene retired as shift supervisor. His retirement was filled enjoying time with family and friends, gardening and fishing.
A mass will take place at 1 pm on Monday, February 20, at Church of Assumption, followed by a reception in St. Joseph's Hall, adjacent to the church.
We would like to thank all the care workers who helped Rene at home, Doctor Lynskey and the palliative care nurses for their kindness and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to a charity of your choice.
